Claire Vassort was born in 1965 in Chateaudun, France. After her schooling in France, she decided to realize her traveling and hang gliding dreams for the next decade. Besides her main flying passion, she also always has had an interest in the arts. Silk painting has always been part of her life.
A teacher by trade, Claire started painting on silk when she was 16 years old. When she moved to the U.S. at age 23, she carried all her painting gear with her so that she could keep practicing her hobby. Her passion for flying hang gliders and travel took her all over the world from 1990 until 2006. She moved permanently to the United States in 1989 and to the Chattanooga, TN area in 2001. Her passion for flying kept her from painting full time, but gave her inspiration for her silk work. Her interests in flying, nature and the outdoors in general have a major influence on her artwork, which has ethereal and spiritual dimensions.
Today, Claire lives on top of Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga in the Plum Nelly area, where she built a small cottage in 2006. Her studio is located at her newly-built home where she focuses on her silk business, painting and teaching. She likes sharing her trade and the beauty of silk painting. She views art as a life lesson that is to be shared with others.
